Dear MABB members,
It is a privilege to serve as President of the Michigan Association of Blood Banks this year. Our 72nd Annual Meeting, held September 9 and 10, 2026, at Schoolcraft College in Livonia, was a wonderful reminder of what makes this organization so meaningful: the opportunity to learn together, reconnect, and exchange ideas.
For many of us, the annual meeting is one of the few times each year that we see friends and peers from across the state in person. One of my favorite parts of the meeting is seeing conversations continue between sessions, over coffee, and in the exhibit hall as people reconnect, share ideas, and learn from one another. It also gives us an opportunity to welcome new members and form connections that continue long after we leave the meeting.
This was our second year offering both in-person and virtual attendance. Thank you to everyone who joined us, whether in Livonia or remotely. We plan to continue offering a virtual option to extend the meeting’s reach, and I encourage you to share future meeting information with others, whether in Michigan or beyond.
We were fortunate to have engaging speakers and a program that reflected the wide range of work performed in blood banking and transfusion medicine. Over two days, we explored practical laboratory challenges, current clinical guidance, inventory management, and emerging therapies. The program also addressed cybersecurity, legislation affecting blood transfusion, and communicating science with the public. Clinical and serologic case presentations allowed us to learn from real-world experiences in transfusion services and blood banks.
Presentation materials made available by participating speakers will soon be posted on the MABB website for meeting attendees and MABB members. As a reminder, attendees seeking P.A.C.E. or CME credit should complete the required evaluations and claim their credit.
I am grateful to our speakers, moderators, case presenters, sponsors, exhibitors, and everyone who attended. Thank you for investing your time in learning, teaching, and supporting our profession. I would especially like to thank the Annual Meeting Planning Committee for the many months of work that went into developing the program and bringing the meeting together. Much of that work happens behind the scenes, but it is the reason we were able to have such a successful meeting.
Like many professional organizations, MABB depends on volunteers who share their time, expertise, and ideas. If you are interested in becoming more involved, I hope you will consider joining a committee or attending a Board meeting. Our Publications Committee chair position is currently vacant, and our other committees would also welcome new members. Sharing an idea or suggesting an educational topic is another valuable way to contribute.
We just closed out this year’s meeting, and that means planning for the 2027 Annual Meeting will be underway soon. Please watch the MABB website for next year’s dates, and let us know which topics and speakers you would like to see included.
Thank you for being part of MABB and for everything you do for our patients and our profession. I am grateful for the opportunity to serve alongside you.
